Mine Planning Training

A practical mine planning course covering short, medium and long-term planning — turning resources and designs into realistic, executable plans.

Plans that can actually be mined

The discipline behind a good plan

Good planning is what turns a resource into a safe, productive, profitable operation. This course builds the fundamentals of mine planning across short, medium and long-term horizons, and how they fit together.

Participants learn to move from resource and design through to a practical, resourced plan — understanding the constraints that make a plan executable rather than just optimistic.

A plan is only useful if it can be mined. We teach planning that respects the real constraints of the operation.

What the course covers

Modules

Planning horizons

How short, medium and long-term planning differ, connect and feed each other.

Resource to inventory

Working from the resource model and reserves to a practical mining inventory.

Cut-off & strategy

Cut-off grade basics and how strategy shapes what gets mined and when.

Mine design basics

Designs, accesses and layouts that underpin a plan — open pit and underground.

Constraints & integration

Bringing geotechnical, ventilation, services and equipment constraints into the plan.

Building the plan

Constructing a defensible, resourced plan and communicating it clearly.

Who should attend

Designed for

  • Graduate and early-career mining engineers
  • Planning engineers building their fundamentals
  • Production engineers moving into planning
  • Technical services and supervisors

FAQ

Mine planning training, answered

Is this open pit or underground?

Both. Core planning principles apply across methods, and content can be weighted to your operation’s context.

Do we need planning software for the course?

No. The course focuses on the engineering and decision-making behind planning; it can be aligned to your software workflows where useful.

How does it relate to scheduling?

Planning sets what and how; scheduling sequences it over time. The two courses are complementary — many teams take both.

Want your planners trained on this?
